Flatline

Flatline

Gamma Rave's debut single, Flatline, is built around the concept of a patient flatlining. Starting with the simple beep of a life-support monitor and a rhythmic heartbeat, the song gradually adds more and more layers to the mix, building in a frenzy before cutting away to the inevitable flatline, and then breaking out into a tempestuous Drum & Bass chorus. From that point on the song doesn't let up, with chugging punk riffs, driving drums, screaming synths, rapid-fire vocals, and twisty rhythm and tempo changes.

Based off of a text written by Dr. Willybobz when he was 17, the lyrical themes of the song serve as the perfect complement to the music, asking the question of whether the word “freedom” has lost some of its relevance and meaning in today's society where our freedom is assumed, yet is steadily being eroded away. Perhaps, as the flatline of the song suggests, “freedom“ is a word that's dead.
